Drug Use Indicators


Signs of Cannabis Use:

  • Dilated (large) pupils
  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Clear eyes solution
  • Cigarette rolling papers
  • Seeds that have been cleaned from marijuana
  • Smell on clothing, in room, or in car
  • Sleepy appearance
  • Reduced motivation
  • Pipes, bongs, homemade smoking devices, burnt or stained tips of knives (you may see sticky residue from burned marijuana)

Signs of Methamphetamine Use:

  • Incessant talking
  • False sense of confidence and power
  • Irritability and extreme moodiness
  • Aggressive or violent behavior
  • Repetitious behavior
  • Tremors or convulsions
  • Disinterest in previously enjoyed Activities
  • Poor hygiene
  • Inability to sleep
  • Severe depression
  • Loss of appetite
  • Extreme weight loss
  • Nervous physical activity
  • Burn marks on fingers or hands
  • Presence of drug paraphernalia such as: P pipes, glass smoking pipes, broken or modified light bulbs, cut off drinking straws, very small snaplock plastic bags which are empty or have crystalline powder residue in them (point or grams bags), butane lighters or gas torches

Parents - General Drug Use Indicators:

  • Frequent sniffles, cough, and stuffy nose.
  • Redness of eyes dilated or constricted pupils.
  • Change in sleep patterns, such as insomnia, napping or sleeping at inappropriate times.
  • Sudden appetite, especially for sweets, or unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite. Refusing food, lying about eating.
  • Neglect of personal appearance, grooming.
  • Unexplained periods or reactions of moodiness, depression, anxiety, irritability, over sensitivity, or hostility.

At home you may notice:

  • Strongly inappropriate overreaction to mild criticism or simple requests.
  • Avoids interacting and communicating with parents, withdraws from family activities.
  • Preoccupation with "self", less concern for the feelings of others.
